Hikes, Rock Shows, and the Biggest Night In San Diego

We hope you are enjoying this holiday season in San Diego and, as always, have a few suggestions on what to do in-between opening presents and stuffing your face full of gradma's pies. Have a safe and happy new year and ring in 2012 with these awesome events in San Diego. If you are interested in getting some pre-Christmas exercise in before you feast all weekend long, the Mission Trails Regional Park Trail Guides will be leading pre-dawn hikes at Cowles Mountain. Join them as they hike to the area of solstice observatory on Cowles Mountain, Friday, December 23rd at 6am. The solstice site is approximately one mile up the trail and the entire hike will last about two hours. Weather-permitting, you will enjoy the sunrise split by a peak on the eastern horizon. As you begin the hike, it will still be very dark out, so good shoes and flashlights are highly recommended. Hikers will meet at the Cowles Mountain Staging Area, which is loc ... read more

Bratwurst, Free Museums, and Hobbits - Oh My!

October is one of the most beautiful months in San Diego because it cools off just enough to let us stop sweating from the summer heat, but not so much that we're freezing. October also brings a month full of fun activities to be enjoyed by the whole family. Ocean Beach Oktoberfest is expanding to a two-day celebration this year, Friday, October 7th and Saturday the 8th. The festival will now feature entertainment both inside the beer garden and outside on the grassy area in front of the beach. On Friday, the Charger girls will be hanging out starting at 4:30 and from 4-7pm, you can enjoy the Beer Garden Band Slam and Happy Hour with six cover and tribute bands competing for the cash prize of $4,000. Other fun activities will include the sausage toss, the stein holding and bratwurst eating contest, and the fun run. The entire month of October has been deemed ... read more

This Wednesday, March 30th, is Commune Wednesday, a monthly event that celebrates local art, music and fashion every last Wednesday of the month. Music, Musicals, and Movies in San Diego

This week, we are all about shows happening around San Diego; kick off the week with a free movie screening, followed by a live rock show in the middle of the week, and then round up your weekend with a delightful musical, Jane Austen-style. Forget drive in movies; in San Diego, it’s all about the “dive in”! The Pearl Hotel in Point Loma offers a free weekly poolside movie screening.
