Hikes, Rock Shows, and the Biggest Night In San Diego

We hope you are enjoying this holiday season in San Diego and, as always, have a few suggestions on what to do in-between opening presents and stuffing your face full of gradma's pies. Have a safe and happy new year and ring in 2012 with these awesome events in San Diego.

december 23-29

If you are interested in getting some pre-Christmas exercise in before you feast all weekend long, the Mission Trails Regional Park Trail Guides will be leading pre-dawn hikes at Cowles Mountain. Join them as they hike to the area of solstice observatory on Cowles Mountain, Friday, December 23rd at 6am. The solstice site is approximately one mile up the trail and the entire hike will last about two hours. Weather-permitting, you will enjoy the sunrise split by a peak on the eastern horizon. As you begin the hike, it will still be very dark out, so good shoes and flashlights are highly recommended. Hikers will meet at the Cowles Mountain Staging Area, which is located on the corner of Golfcrest and Navajo at the trailhead, just south of the comfort station.

Enjoy some funky rock and roll music before New Years Eve on Friday, December 30th at The Casbah. Local San Diego bands The Burning of Rome, Get Back Loretta, and Kut U Up will all be playing and the show begins at 8:30pm. This will be Get Back Loretta's first show in over 7 months, so don't miss it. The show is 21 and up only and admission costs only $10 for this stellar line up of bands!

There is no shortage of fun things to do in San Diego for New Years Eve, but Big Night San Diego is always the biggest bash in the area. Big Night San Diego features twelve, (yes 12!), themed party areas, six seperate dance floors, massive balloon drops, party favors, and much, much more. San Diego locals, Little Hurricane, will be rocking the house as well as Geezer; and DJ Edgartronic and Mike Czech will be spinning too. Discounted hotel rooms at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront are available to party-goers so you can party the night away and not have to worry about getting home safely. Check out the three different ticket options online here.
