I went in for a smog check and the staff was so courteous and helpful. It took less than a 1/2 hour and I had everything completed to renew my registration. In addition, it was the best smelling waiting room ever!

I have been having the guys at convoy service my cars for over 15 years. They are the real deal.

I took my truck to Convoy to get diagnosed due to a really bad vacuum leak I was having. I had taken it to my previous mechanic 4 times in the past and each time got it back in subpar condition. David Ely at Convoy personally looked at my truck and they had it repaired quickly. When I picked it up it ran beautifully! I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of all the employees. They keep a clean shop and were very respectful of the interior of my vehicle, and do fabulous work. Hands down I would take my truck there again to get repairs done. Thanks Convoy!

These guys are truly professional. Bryan and Joe will take care of you.I seriously find it appalling that anyone had a bad experience with them.I will say this, and maybe the concern is with the consumer side of things...they WILL absolutely try to up sell you. It is your job as a consumer to tell them what your needs and expectations are. If you fail at communicating to them what you are and aren't willing to tolerate, there is no one to blame but yourself. They are only trying to stay in business, all shops try to upsell, this one just isn't shy about it. Call them out if you think they are being too aggressive, they will relax.I went in for brakes that were grabbing, and felt like they were nearing their end.Any place will do a free inspection for brakes, but not every place will show you what they see, honestly assess your needs for work to be done, and listen to what you have to say. They did try to up sell me, but they also showed me very important things on my car going forward so I could monitor the wear, etc. Since we determined it was largely a brake pedal feel issue, and not one of any specific safety concern, I did not have to spend the $250 for the rear brakes and didn't have to spend 350 for the fronts, so...I asked for an oil change, and asked what they thought about a crankcase flush, and they told me to save my money, gave some practical product advice to increase performance and charged me less for an oil change than your typical chain oil change.I was dreading this trip...because money is tighter this month than I like...but these guys are my heroes today. They didn't waste my time, they saved me some money, and they gave me realistic estimates on how long I should wait to return for the services they recommended.I am happy that I reviewed them yesterday on yelp.com before I went in for this, but I am even happier that my experience continues to be a rewarding and comfortable one with Convoy Auto repair. These guys are very honest, and they WILL take care of you. Don't be afraid to tell them what you expect, and your minimum needs-they WILL accommodate.Very deserved 5 star rating. P.S. I am writing this review in their lobby. As I was getting settled out they came in to warn me about my radiator cap, which fell apart when they removed it..., my fault? No, not Theirs, either-just the way things happen. But it is a $10 dollar fix that I don't have a problem paying for, I asked them specifically to check my fluids, etc, and the cap fell apart, they couldnt have known it would do that. They are on their way to grab the part and put it on. I had some radiator/cooling system work done here a few months back, (which they saved me a bunch of money on over another shop), and had it been broken then, they would have replaced it then. The cap being broken, they didn't want the work they did previous to spew out as I drove home. It's an awkward thing that they realized the broken cap, but it was a responsible and fair solution to approach me about it the way they did. As I am waiting to finish up they offer the wireless code for their network, and I promptly let them know I'm yelping their company as we speak. I told them I think that they should look at their yelp ratings, and try to improve the interaction with the disgruntled customers, at least try to understand why there is a wide range of customer service inconsistencies, and that they really are a great company who should be able to use yelp to positively reinforce their marketing and presence. They agreed, and quipped: " I wish that customers were willing to tell us where we went wrong, and tell us what they believe should have happened, so we can avoid bad customer experiences (not verbatim), most of those that say they had a bad experience aren't willing to help us improve by telling us our faults" Again, 5 stars. Not a perfect shop, but good enough-the best I have dealt with in the last 10 years in San Diego. Be a good consumer for your sake, and the others that need you to be, like me and thousands upon thousands of yelpers...communicate with the businesses you do business with.

You are 100% correct on "Up Sales." We always attempt to let our customer know everything we can find on their vehicles so they, with our assistance can make informative decisions to get the best life from their cars. Many Years ago we did an Oil & Filter change on a 5 year old 75K vehicle; passed off the coolant hoses (AAA now recommends 5 Yrs / 50K replacement) 3 days later it blew a hose in Gila Bend AZ and cost $1,000 plus a 3 day stay. The customer was obviously upset and asked, "Why hoses were not noted so he could make choices." Most professional shop will do a complete inspection.

I've been frequenting these guys since 2007 and I've not found a better place in SD yet. They are efficient, friendly and informative about the services they can offer. They have done repairs and maintenance on both my 99 Honda Civic and my 06 Honda Accord. Everything from brakes and smog check to my timing belt with no issues! Some of the other yelp reviewers have a problem with Convoy letting you know what other issues that your car might be having when they are repairing it... um, that's what they are supposed to do! It's their job to take a look at the automobile and give you the straight shot on what's going on in there. It's up to you as the consumer to make the final decision on what they repair! My brother is an auto mechanic and I helped him out for a good many years of my life. It is easier to take care of any other potential issues while you have the car pulled apart than to pull it apart again at a later time. It saves money and maintenance in the long run. Quite frankly, sounds like a few of the reviewers are more concerned about their pocket book than the lifespan of their auto.Personally, I'd rather take my car to Convoy and be sure it's done right than some ghetto Wal-Mart repair facility anyday!

Convoy Auto is AWESOME! The guys there are genuine. Dave says "I work on each car as if it were my mother's or daughter's." I had a problem which wasn't registering during the diagnostic. Dave had an idea of what it might be, but didn't want to just guess. he actually investigated the problem, talked to other experts in the field and was honest in telling me that without the diagnostic he couldn't be 100% sure, but that he was confident in his assessment. Putting my trust in him I allowed him to do what he thought was best. I've now driven from San Diego to Boston and haven't had a single problem. My service was prompt, communication was excellent, and they didn't talk down to me as if I was some dumb girl who didn't know about cars. Dave took the time to explain everything. Then when I went to another place for a quick oil change they told me I needed a belt changed. I called Dave to ask if I should bring it to him, were these guys being honest, he took the time to talk to me about the belt and service, even though I wasn't getting the work done at his garage. A wonderful man, he really made me feel cared about. YOU CAN TRUST THEM!!!!

Convoy Auto was recommended to me by a friend with a Dodge Ram diesel pick-up. I have a Dodge Ram wheelchair van. He saved $4,000 over the dealer's quote on some repair by Convoy. I would recommend Convoy to anyone who has a big American truck or van. My experience was pretty good. It was hard to talk to the desk person, but the owner called me up twice to explain the problems, and to see if I was happy with the repairs and maintenance. When I mentioned the bad reviews here, the owner took the time to explain what happened. We think of our van more like a piece of medical equipment than just a car, so it's important to be sure of good quality repairs. I feel that we got good and honest service.

I took my 02 honda accord here a year ago to have my front brake pads changed and they did a great job. Their customer service is excellent and they use raybestos brake pads which are nice. I think it was around 170 or so but it was cheaper after the 10% off coupon you can find on their website. To this day, my brakes are still really good with no vibrating steering wheel when I brake hard. I had an alignment recently at another place and the guys confirmed that my brakes were still really good. I'm not sure what happened to the reviewer below but I do recommend this place as far as my experience with them goes.
